Le noyau des collections est formé du fonds constitué par le musée municipal, principalement issu du musée Godin, créé par la Société du Familistère au début du XXe siècle, mais aussi de collections d'histoire locale (ville de Guise, château-fort et Camille Desmoulins). Le fonds lié au Familistère fondé par Jean-Baptiste-André Godin comprend une très belle collection de photographies du Familistère et de l'usine Godin, des objets personnels du fondateur, des appareils domestiques produits par l'usine Godin et des documents sur la vie du Familistère et de ses habitants. Une récente et ambitieuse politique d'acquisition, soutenue par les dépôts du Département de l'Aisne, conforte les thèmes existants. Elle y ajoute, en outre, les expériences sociales comparables, la vie au Familistère jusqu'à aujoud'hui et la concurrence aux productions Godin, afin d'expliciter chaque aspect de l'expérimentation (logement, organisation sociale et domestique et production industrielle) dans un contexte opérant et dans une perspective actuelle
