Musée d'histoire naturelle créé en 1836 par Léonard Nodot à partir de ses propres collections, augmentées de la collection du M. de Chamblanc (1797). Les Conservateurs bénévoles ayant succédé à Léonard Nodot ont officié jusqu'en 1969. Ils furent tous professeurs à la Faculté des sciences de Dijon. Lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le musée fut en partie détruit. Environ un tiers des collections disparut à cette occasion. En 1972, un médecin général (Docteur Maurice Chabeuf) succède aux Universitaires. La rénovation du Musée est amorcée en 1974 et s'achève en 1980. Le premier conservateur salarié est recruté par la Ville de Dijon en 1980. Une deuxième vague de rénovation du musée est engagée en 1992. L'inauguration est présidée par Théodore Monod. En 2001, le Jardin botanique et le muséum fusionnent et deviennent le Jardin des sciences. Une troisième vague de rénovation est menée en 2013.
