Maison natale de Pasquale Paoli, cédée en 1889 au département de la Corse par Jean-Baptiste Franceschini-Pietri, descendant de Clémente Paoli, frère aîné de Pasquale, à condition d’installer à l’intérieur de l’oratoire les cendres de l’illustre personnage et de transformer le deuxième étage en musée : ce dernier est créé en 1954. Les souvenirs ayant appartenu au général en chef de la nation corse indépendante ont été rassemblés par ses héritiers ou acquis par le département. La chapelle funéraire, aménagée à la fin du XIXe siècle au rez-de-chaussée de la maison, conserve les cendres de Paoli ainsi que la pierre tombale qui ornait son caveau au cimetière londonien de l’église Saint-Pancrace. Le musée de Merusaglia obtient le label Maison des Illustres en 2012.
