Les collections documentent l'histoire de l'exploitation minière et métallurgique en Montagne Noire. Le site antique des Martys, fouillé depuis les années 1970, qui était l'un des plus grands centres sidérurgiques antiques. Les collections médiévales renseignent sur la vie quotidienne dans le castrum de Cabaret, situé sur la commune de Lastours, qui fait aussi l'objet de fouilles régulières. L'activité minière contemporaine est représentée par des outils et machines et des collectes de témoignages.
