L'usine de fabrication de corde ferme en 1978. En 1982, l'association du Musée de L'homme et de l'industrie achète les machines et tente de sauver le bâtiment de la destruction. En 1992, des travaux de restauration et de mise en place muséographique sont réalisés par la région (propriétaire du bâtiment) et le département de Seine-Maritime (gestionnaire des collections). En 1994, le public découvre une usine avec toutes ses machines et son appareillage en état de fonctionnement (roue, transmission). Depuis 1994, des dons et des achats ont permis d'enrichir les collections autour de la thématique de l'histoire industrielle locale avec un pan des collection dédié à l'impression sur étoffes.
