Anne Morgan, fille du banquier John Pierpont Morgan, établit une association humanitaire au domaine de Blérancourt en 1917. Après la Première Guerre mondiale, elle participe à la reconstruction de la Picardie, en même temps qu'elle rachète des parcelles de terrains et reconstitue le domaine et ouvre, en 1924, avec son amie Anne Murray Dike, un musée historique franco-américain dédié au souvenir de la participation française à la guerre de l'indépendance américaine et à l’œuvre charitable des Américains pendant la Grande Guerre. Le don du château et de ses collections à la ville de Blérancourt permet à l’État, en 1931, d'ouvrir un musée national dédié à la Coopération franco-américaine.
