C'est le 31 août 2001, que le musée de la faïence et de la céramique ouvre ses portes au public. Né de la mobilisation d'acteurs locaux militant pour préserver et valoriser le patrimoine céramique dans les années 80, le projet se concrétise en 1994 avec la volonté du Président du Conseil général, relayé par les élus locaux. Le projet s'oriente très vite vers un équipement muséal d'envergure nationale. Le site choisi est un lieu emblématique. Malicorne, terre de faïence et de grès depuis le XVIIIe siècle veut perpétuer sa renommée. Le musée de la faïence et de la céramique, pôle culturel et touristique, est un centre-ressource dans le domaine de la céramique. Il réunit, préserve et dévoile les maintes richesses des ateliers malicornais, proposant un panorama chronologique et thématique de l'histoire et des techniques traditionnelles de la production céramique de Malicorne.
