Réunie par un riche amateur de la région, M. Passet, cette collection de papillons et insectes fut léguée à la ville de Saint-Quentin en 1912. En 1942, la collection s'enrichit de celle de M. Verplancke, et en 1988, de celle du chanoine Pierre de Larminat. De lieux en lieux et ayant subi les vicissitudes des conflits mondiaux, les collections arrivent en 1989 à l'Espace St-Jacques où elles sont présentées de manière à la fois esthétique et académique. La scénographie, revue totalement en 2017-2018, axe le discours sur l'histoire du musée et la présentation générale des insectes et leurs caractéristiques dans un objectif de vulgarisation.
