Inauguré en 1986 à l'initiative des Amis de Treffort-Cuisiat, du Département et de la Commune, le musée du Revermont est le premier musée ethnographique conventionné en lien avec la conservation départementale. En 1987, une nouvelle convention précise les attributions des différents partenaires pour la gestion du musée, pôle « Revermont » du Musée des Pays de l’Ain. De 1988 à 1990, la mission d’inventaire et d’étude des variétés locales de plantes cultivées est mise en place ainsi que le potager-verger conservatoire du musée. En 1998, le musée est départementalisé. L’Association des amis du musée poursuit son action de recueil de témoignages, de collectes d’objets ou d’archives.
