Maison où séjourna Jean-Jacques Rousseau avec Madame de Warens de 1736 à 1742, décrite aux livres V et VI des Confessions et dans la 10e des Rêveries du Promeneur solitaire. Ce lieu, où s'est formée la personnalité d'un des plus grands écrivains de langue française, témoigne de son influence dans l'évolution de la pensée universelle : la nature, le romantisme, l'éducation, le bonheur, le siècle des Lumières, les droits de l'homme et la citoyenneté. C'est aussi un site naturel préservé, et un jardin botanique. C'est aux Charmettes que Jean-Jacques Rousseau dit avoir découvert la botanique et son amour de la nature. On sait que la maison était entourée d'un jardin, d'un verger et de vignes. Les lieux ont donc été réaménagés en 1992-1993 dans l'esprit du XVIIIe siècle.
