Le musée de Moissac se constitue progressivement, à partir de 1830, autour de l’embryon de collection lapidaire de la Société du Cloître. En 1929, puis 1937, la collection s’enrichit d’œuvres diverses provenant de la collection du père Belbèze, prieur du monastère des Carmes de Rennes, qui a acquis l’Hôtellerie Sainte-Foy. Le Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires ouvre officiellement ses portes en 1951. Il prend plus tard le nom de sa conservatrice, une enfant du pays, Marguerite Vidal. En 2013, les collections ethnographiques sont mises en réserves pour des questions de conservation.
