Les collections du musée, issues de trois legs, sont installées à l'hôtel de ville dès 1948 (ancien hôtel de l’Échevinage du XVIIIe siècle), avant d'occuper les lieux actuels. Inauguré en 1997, le musée est installé dans l'ancien complexe des bains-douches municipaux. Collections municipales issues des fonds (dons, legs) Carcano, Boyer, Recouvreur. Essentiellement ivoires, faïences mais aussi tableaux et armes. Collections départementales (ivoires, faïences) mises en dépôt.
