Un musée départemental de l'Armée Secrète et de la Résistance est créé en 1984. Le fonds constitutif de ce musée a été réuni par les anciens de l'Armée Secrète Loire. Le musée d'histoire du XXe siècle Résistance et Déportation est venu actualiser en 1999 le propos de l'ancien musée, auquel il succède. Tout en conservant le fonds réuni par les anciens de l'Armée Secrète de la Loire, il étend désormais sa présentation historique à l'ensemble du XXe siècle.
