Au cœur du territoire transfrontalier des Pyrénées catalanes (66), le Musée de Cerdagne conserve une collection ethnographique, témoignant de l’histoire agricole, sociale et culturelle d’un territoire montagnard, sur la longue durée. Tout commence en 1982. La commune de Sainte-Léocadie achète l’ancienne maison du Viguier de Cerdagne, construite au XVIIIe siècle. Des passionnés du patrimoine cerdan, Rose de Montella, Pierre Campmajo, Denis Crabol, Jean-Louis Blanchon et le maire Jean-Marie Aris fondent l’association Casa de Cerdanya en 1986. Instigatrice du futur musée, l’association lance les premières collectes. La première pierre est posée ! En 1990, le Syndicat Intercommunal pour la Valorisation du Patrimoine Cerdan (SIVPC), regroupant les communes d’Estavar, Eyne, Nahuja, Osséja, Saillagouse et Sainte-Léocadie, structure le musée, souhaitant en faire un acteur important, dans la perspective d'un développement culturel durable en Cerdagne. Le musée ouvre ses portes au public en 1992 avec l’exposition Bergers & troupeaux de Cerdagne – la ferme est encore en activité agricole. En 2013, le SIVPC transfère la gestion du Musée de Cerdagne et de ses collections à la Communauté de communes Pyrénées-Cerdagne. Début 2026, le fonds en dépôt de l’association Casa de Cerdanya, (9600 objets) est donné au musée. Le travail de valorisation se poursuit, témoignant de la diversité des collections,… allant de la petite cuillère à la moissonneuse-batteuse !
