Le musée d'histoire de Figeac, adossé aux salons récemment restaurés de l'ancien séminaire, incarne la mémoire matérielle de la ville et du département du Lot, mais témoigne aussi, bien au-delà, des voyages lointains qu'ont effectués ses nombreux et généreux donateurs. Aménagé en partie dans l'esprit des cabinets de curiosités, on y découvre en effet, aussi bien un ensemble d’œuvres lotoises du peintre catalan Pierre Daura, que des cadeaux présidentiels remis au président Georges Pompidou (défenses d'éléphants, selles de fantasia). L'outillage préhistorique (bifaces acheuléens, haches néolithiques) y côtoie les armes à feu, tandis que crapaud-buffle et hippocampe naturalisés voisinent avec les minéraux et fossiles provenant de la région de Figeac. Enfin, aux portraits peints s'ajoutent les richesses mobilières, avec notamment le remarquable meuble de sacristie de l’église Notre-Dame du Puy ou encore une tête de Christ d'origine locale sculptée avant la Révolution.
