Le Musée archéologique départemental de Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges est créé en 1985 à l’occasion de la cession par la Société archéologique du Midi de la France (jusqu’alors maître d’œuvre de l’archéologie locale), de l’ensemble de ses collections au Conseil général de la Haute-Garonne. Depuis cette date, le musée est dépositaire des objets archéologiques issus des fouilles réalisées entre 1920 et 1969 à l’emplacement du chef-lieu de la cité antique des Convènes, Lugdunum-Conuenae, objets auxquels se sont ajoutés ceux qui proviennent des fouilles effectuées de 1985 à 2000. Fortement investi dans la recherche archéologique, le musée a pour vocation de promouvoir l’étude et la mise en valeur des collections en lien avec les résultats des travaux récents menés sur le site et d’en garantir la conservation, la sécurité et l’accessibilité. Il présente un programme régulier d’expositions temporaires depuis 1990.
