Le musée de Saint-Gaudens, aujourd'hui nommé Le Musée - Arts & figures des Pyrénées Centrales, créé par la commune de Saint-Gaudens en 1962, a été inauguré en 1968 dans le bâtiment de l'ancienne mairie. Les collections ethnologiques à l'origine ont été d'abord constituées par des dons. A partir des années 1990, une politique d'acquisition a été menée afin de constituer une importante collection de céramique de Saint-Gaudens/Valentine, notamment. Le musée a enrichi ses collection de la collection photographique de l'unique pyrénéiste pyrénéen, Jean Bepmale qui a été le premier a traverser les Pyrénées en 1906. Le musée possède également une belle collection de toile du peintre académique Jean Rixens.
