La Fondation de Coubertin est née en 1973, de la rencontre entre Yvonne de Coubertin, humaniste de conviction, et Jean Bernard, artiste, tailleur de pierre et rénovateur du compagnonnage français. La Fondation de Coubertin œuvre pour l’élévation morale et culturelle des individus attachés à la perfection et à la qualité du travail manuel. Jean Bernard a voulu confier à la Fondation l'essentiel de l’œuvre de son père, le sculpteur Joseph Bernard (dont 1.500 dessins et ce qu'il restait de ses archives). Il a également souhaité créer un jardin de sculptures, voué à l’École française de sculpture, de Rude à Zadkine. Cette collection est constituée à partir de bronzes, allant de Bernard à Chauvin et Hajdu, grâce aux ayants-droit de ces artistes.
